In nature, where all living things are in balance with the environment, all goods in their pristine form are enough for everyone. Sometimes it seems we have forgotten to appreciate such things.
Ecosystems are the basis for human life and all of its activities. However, humans have a long-term effect on the organisms in the ecosystem, and thus also on its functioning. The goods and services that ecosystems provide are essential for maintaining well-being and for future economic and social development. Ecosystems provide us with many services that we are often not even aware of.
Ecosystem services are gifts of nature that enable us to survive and also to improve our quality of life. They affect the well-being of humans and the survival of other living organisms. They represent a systemic view of the connections between people and the natural environment in which we live. Forests cover approximately 31% of the land and are the main source of wood, an important sink of atmospheric CO2, a source of food and a habitat for many animal and plant species. For humans, they present opportunities for quality recreation, the aesthetic role of the forest and heritage value, as it may be important for us in the latter that our descendants also enjoy the forest.
